Vic Country Sport Representatives
Four of our talented students have recently been rewarded with selection to Victoria Country representative teams in their chosen sports. Jonti Schuback (Year 11) was selected to the U17 Vic Country team to compete in the 2021 NAB AFL U17 Championships and Alexandra Beale, Ashley Centra (Year 9) and Tayli Dimarco (Year 8) were selected to the U16 Vic Country basketball team to compete in the 2021 Australian Under-16 Junior Championships.
Jonti, who plays with Gippsland Power and whose home club is Maffra, was selected in the team scheduled to compete in the Championships on the Gold Coast from July 5th. Due to the challenges of border closures most of the games were unable to proceed as planned. However, Jonti did get a chance to play for Vic Country against Vic Metro in Geelong on Saturday 26th June. Against a strong metro side, Vic Country went down 7.4.46 to 12.8.80. Congratulations to Jonti on this achievement and hopefully he gets to showcase his talents in a rescheduled competition at a later date.
Ally, Ash and Tayli, were a part of the ten strong Women’s U16 Vic Country basketball team that was scheduled to head to Perth, Western Australia from 3-7 July 2021 for the Championships, to be held at Warwick Stadium. Unfortunately, government restrictions and State border closures postponed the event. It is hoped that it will be able to be rescheduled for later in the year. We congratulate the three girls on this achievement and look forward to them having the opportunity to compete in 2021.
