SSV Gippsland Athletics – Overall Champion School!
A fantastic effort was produced from the CCS Athletics team, who on Thursday were crowned the overall champion school of the 2018 SSV Gippsland Athletics competition. A total of 46 medals were won including 19 gold.
Stand out individual performances came from the following students:
Jonathon Boyd – 1st in the 12/13 Boys high jump, triple jump and long jump
Keisha Jackson – 1st in the 15 years girls shot put (with a record put of 10.83m) and javelin
Grace O’Brien – 1st in the 14 Girls 800m and 400m
Oakley Pearson – 1st in the 12/13 Boys shotput and a new record of 12.15m
Zane Perkins – 1st in the 15 Boys javelin with a throw of 42.08 beat the previous record by 4m.
Courtney McDonough – 1st in the 15 Girls 800m and 2nd in the 1500m
Tahlia Dower – 1st in the 18-20 Girls Javelin and 2nd in the 1500m, 800m and 400m.
Jack Hrehoresen – 1st in the 14 Boys Shot put and 3rd in the discus.
Jasmine Schellen – 1st in the 17 Girls Long jump.
In the 18-20 Years Boys gold medals were won by Luke Williams in the javelin, Josh Edey in the high jump and Brent McKenzie in the 1500m.
The College also had great relay success with many teams finishing on the podium.
Gold medals were won by the 16 Year Girls team (Jess Jackson, Bridget Brown, Dawn Pfeil and Tuana Cooper), the 17 Years Boys team (Aaron Broadbridge, Kyle Simpson, Joseph Ziino and Max Gravener) and the 18 Years Girls team (Tahlia Dower, Macy Gardiner, Paige Morris and Hailey Armstrong).
The 14 Years Boys team (Kirk Mijares, Sam Callahan, Jack Hrehoresen and Harry Gravener) placed second whilst the 14 Years Girls (Grace O’Brien, Jazz Hennig, Paige Van Ekeren and Lara Wain) and 18 Years Boys (Zac Hurley, Josh Edey, Brent McKenzie and Will Logan) teams placed third.
Congratulations to all team members for their efforts and determination. As a result, the College will have 23 students competing at SSV State Finals at Lakeside Stadium on Monday October 22nd.
