SSV Cricket – Years 7 & 8
On Wednesday March 13th, our Year 7 & 8 Cricket teams played at the College Ovals against Maffra Secondary College and Sale College in the first round of the School Sport Victoria Cricket competition. Both teams were victorious, and will progress on to the next round.
Year 8
In order to fit the round robin fixture in, our Year 8s played 12-overs a side against Sale and Maffra.
Batting first against Sale, Jos DiMarco and Waltley Sutton put in a great opening partnership of 63, which they accumulated inside seven overs.
DiMarco went on to score 40 off 31 balls in a team total of 98. Our bowling response was terrific in reply, as we restricted Sale to 48 from its 12 overs.
Ryan Phelan (1/5), Tyson Dobson (1/12), Cooper Lett (1/10) and Bailey Wright (2/4) were amongst the wickets – Bailey just missing out on a hat-trick!
In our second game, we faced Maffra’s dangerous batting top order. We did well to restrict our opponent to 2/63 from their allotted overs.
Wright took the only wicket, while Phelan (0/3), Dobson (0/7) and Diamond (0/9) were miserly with their bowling spells.
A tricky total to chase inside 12 overs, Captain Jay Diamond lead the way with an intelligent 23 not out, with 78% of his runs coming in ones and twos.
With the match evenly posed, Bailey Wright and Jack Kelly provided solid support for Diamond towards the end of the innings, to get us over the line.
We now face off against Kurnai College in the Wellington Final.
Year 7
Our Year 7 Cricket team had a strong opening encounter in their only game against Sale College.
Batting first, we made 4/144 from our twenty overs. Jackson Annear top-scored with 41 from 34 balls, while Ashton Wright (33) and Asher Eastham (19) offered great support.
Our bowling attack was sublime in response. Across the board, our efforts with the ball were economical and effective.
Five bowlers (Grattan, Pendergast, Stobie, Wrigglesworth & Bowker) went for two runs or less from their two-over spells, while Jack Cantwell chimed in with two wickets.
We now face off against Traralgon College in the Wellington Final.
