SSV State Quarter-Final Girls’ AFL: Match Results and Highlights
Junior Girls
Our Year 7/8 Girls Football (AFL) side have fallen just short of a spot in the SSV State Grand Final, after being pipped by Catholic College Wodonga by 12 points. Earlier in the day, the side were tremendous in the State Quarter Final against Ringwood, winning 5.2.32 to 4.5.29. The girls gave themselves every chance to make it a double in their second match of the day, after creating a 14-3 lead at the first change. In an even match-up, the scores were level at three quarter time (22-all), but it would be Wodonga who ran out the match the better, making the most of the 4th quarter wind advantage to book a spot in the State Final.
Best players for the day for CCS were: Captain Brooke Kelly (three goals in the first game and two in the second), Taylah Mizzi, Charlotte Dillow, Cienna Searle-McKinnon and Daisy Wilson.
A big thank you to Jo Gieschen and Danny Butcher for their coaching and mentoring of this team.
Intermediate Girls
Our Intermediate Girls Football side put up a great fight, however finished on the wrong side of the win-loss ledger, falling to Rowville SC by 43 points in their SSV State Quarter Final encounter, in a scoreline that flattered our opponents. Despite being down by 34 points at halftime, it felt as though CCS were still in the game, especially after Katie Robinson and Grace Dillow combined for the team’s first goal early in the third quarter. While CCS would win the penultimate term, a couple of goals to Rowville late in the third put the game beyond doubt. To their credit, the girls stuck it out and finished the game with their heads held high.
Better players for the day were: Chloe Rees, Tanna Boyle, Jas Stewart, Grace Dillow, Katie Robinson, Nat Begovic and Isabel Goldsmith.
Big thanks to Danny Butcher for his coaching and mentoring of this team, and to Kerrie Robbins for her support in the day.
